Natural Tick Repellent For Kids

Kids who play outside in grass or heavy brush may pick up ticks.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, ticks are not insects but arachnids, closely related to scorpions and spiders. These small pests find a host and bury their heads in the host's skin to suck blood. Ticks can carry dangerous diseases and cause serious health complications, but they are relatively easy to keep away with natural repellents. Does this Spark an idea?

Citronella

Citronella spray repels ticks naturally, and will keep kids safe when they play outside. Citronella has a plant base and is safe to spread on skin. It also comes in candle forms.

Permethrins

Permethrins are also derived from plants, and provide all-natural tick resistance. Spray this natural insecticide on clothes and skin to keep ticks from biting.

Oils

Oils like rose geranium and palmarosa also prevent ticks, but should not be applied on their own. Parents should mix these oils with aloe or cocoa butter lotion, and then spread it on their children to protect them from ticks.
