Instructions For The Duke Of York Solitaire Game

Can you solve this puzzle?

Duke of York Solitaire is an expensive and well-made version of the peg solitaire game; simply known as solitaire in the UK. The Duke of York Solitaire game, like other peg solitaire games, consists of a round wooden board with 33 holes and 32 brightly colored marbles. The game got its name from a board presented to the Duke of York during his visit to Devon. A Duke of York Solitaire player tries to complete the game in the fewest moves possible (18 is the minimum number of moves).

Instructions

1. Set up the game by placing marbles in all the holes except the center hole.

2. Move your first marble. A marble can move if it is able to jump over another marble in order to land in an empty space. The space can only be two holes away (jumping one marble) to the left, the right, straight ahead or behind. A marble cannot move diagonally.

3. Remove a marble whenever another marble jumps over it.

4. Continue jumping and removing marbles until only one remains. You will typically find the last marble to be in the center circle or in the middle of one of the edges. However, this is a lot harder than it looks; you may end up with multiple "stranded" marbles on the board if you aren't careful.
