Lavender Oil For Baby Bug Bites

Lavender oil is a mild essential oil that has a gentle, pleasent smell.

Taking your baby outdoors naturally invites bug bites from a wide variety of insects. These bites can sting or itch, so treat them with a mild essential oil like lavender oil. Does this Spark an idea?

Benefits

According to Healthy Child, lavender has analgesic, antifungal, antiviral and antibiotic qualities, making it ideal for bug bites that puncture the baby's skin or bug bites that lead to scratching, which in turn can lead to infection.

Method

Mix 1 teaspoon of lavender essential oil with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Apply this mixture to the insect bite and cover it with a bandage. The lavender oil soothes the itching and promotes faster healing.

Caution

While lavender oil is safe for children and babies, the Abundant Health recommends you always dilute the essential oil with vegetable oil before using it on young children. Do not allow a child to ingest essential oil. If he does, give him milk, cream or half-and-half to drink, then call your local poison control center or take him to the emergency room.
