Woolrich Bedding Washing Instructions
Founded in 1830, the Woolrich Company started out supplying durable woolens and rugged outdoor apparel for trappers, hunters and explorers. Hollywood studios and Civil War reenactors still buy authentic Woolrich woolens to recreate the realistic uniforms and wartime blankets. Yet the company has branched out too, with an expansive line of men's and women's casual clothing, home furnishings and bedding. Most wool blankets and high-end bedding sets are dry clean only, but you can wash cotton sheets and less expensive bedding purchased from Target. Does this Spark an idea?
Blankets & Throws
Most Woolrich blankets are dry clean only. (Consider cleaning instructions attached to any item the final word.) You can hand wash the company's commemorative Civil War blankets, replicas of blankets the company made and supplied to troops from 1861 to 1865, though dry cleaning is also an option.
Bedding Sets
Like wool blankets, high-end Woolrich bedding sets-duvets, pillow shams and decorative accent pillows-should only be dry cleaned. Some items are spot clean only.
Sheets & Pillow Cases
Woolrich cotton and cotton flannel sheets purchased through department and discount stores are machine washable/tumble dry, though line drying is also fine. Wash all sheets before using them. Even if warm water washing is suggested-always check washing instructions-wash in cold water and mild detergent to avoid fading colors prematurely. Never use chlorine bleach on whites; try oxygenated stain removers to brighten whites or remove stains instead. Wash and dry flannel sheets separately-laundering flannel creates a great amount of lint-and avoid overdrying, which fades colors and sets wrinkles.
Other Washable Bedding
Less expensive Woolrich blankets, down comforters and throws are generally washable (follow specific instructions). To properly launder large blankets and bed covers, use commercial size washers and dryers at a coin-operated laundry. Toss a clean, dry towel or two into the dryer along with comforters to keep wet filling from clumping as it dries. Because most fabrics absorb liquid fabric softeners unevenly, use dryer sheets instead.
