Safety Talks On Work Space Safety

Safety talks are an excellent way for you to engage employees in discussions about daily workplace safety. They are more memorable than simply distributing handouts or memos. In addition to those hazard communications, safety talks with employees increases awareness and compliance with safety rules.

Ergonomics

Engage employees in safety talks on ergonomics. Ergonomics refers to the relationship between the work space and the employee. Improving the work environment minimizes repetitive motion tasks. You also can prevent injuries from workers' inappropriate movements and positioning.

Confined Spaces

Review potential hazards and associated safety procedures when your employees are working in confined spaces. Engaging your employees as active participants results in a greater awareness of risks and the need for caution. Confined spaces require increased attention to safety requirements.

First-Aid

Safety talks about first-aid should be a priority. Reinforce employee knowledge of emergency phone numbers, trained first-responders in your workplace and approach situations requiring high-level, urgent-care intervention.

Lockout-Tagout

When situations arise requiring comprehensive machine maintenance, regular talks with your maintenance workers keeps the requirements for lockout-tagout procedures fresh. Include machine operators in such talks, as their compliance with the rules will keep everyone safe from machine power-up situations that could result in electrical accidents.

Welding Talks

Welding offers potential hazards including exposure to fumes, noise, radiation, intense light, burns, fires and electrical shock. Conduct short safety talks at the work space before all welding jobs.

Slips and Falls

Slips and falls are the leading cause of workplace injuries, so talk to employees about focusing on their work spaces. Conduct talks on housekeeping techniques, keeping walkways free of debris and blockages, spills, accumulations of dust and more. Employees often don't look below eye level. Safety talks will encourage them to watch for potential hazards.
