Mosquito Repellent For Lawns

Only some outdoor repellent products can keep mosquitoes away from lawns.

Mosquitoes need a blood meal to reproduce and can transmit diseases to humans when they bite. Various products on the market claim to keep mosquitoes away in lawns, but only some work effectively. Does this Spark an idea?

Personal Protection

Effective personal repellents include those that contain DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535 as the active ingredient. These repellents generally last for four hours or less, depending on concentration of the active ingredient, wind, temperature, humidity and perspiration.

Area Protection

Citronella candles and mosquito coils that contain allethrin release substances into the air that repel mosquitoes. They work best when the air is still and suit outdoor environments such as lawns.

Warning

Various products that claim to repel mosquitoes don't work effectively. These include repellent wristbands, ultrasonic devices, electric grids, electronic repellers, fragrant plants, incense, vitamin B1 and mixtures of brewer's yeast and garlic.
