Temporary Floor Protection Materials

Different jobs need different protection.

Temporary floor protection comes in a variety of materials that are designed for specific types of floor. Selection also depends on what the floor needs protection from. Does this Spark an idea?

Materials for Lightweight Jobs

Lightweight rolls of vinyl, plastic or other synthetic sheeting are useful for low-impact jobs that mainly need protection from spills, dust and foot traffic. Some of these materials are specifically made for carpets and are lightly adhesive. For hard floors, a similar, rollable film is used. Specialized materials that allow moisture to escape from uncured surfaces are necessary in some cases. Many are flame-resistant.

The Next Level of Protection

Lightweight corrugated plastic is a good choice for protection against moving heavy objects or falling debris. It is waterproof and pressure-resistant. Available in a variety of thicknesses, it typically comes in panels that can be cut and joined by tape to cover any surface. Some manufacturers produce this material in rolls, which might require less joining and cutting.

Heavy-Duty Protection

In addition to the thickest type of plastic mentioned above, there are products designed to stand up to full-scale construction work. Polypropylene mesh sheeting is puncture- and rip-resistant for protection against sharp objects and shearing. One proprietary material is said by its manufacturer to be lightweight, durable and breathable, allowing for protection of uncured surfaces during construction work.
