Mosquito Repellent For Your Porch

Outdoor repellents keep mosquitoes away from your porch.

Various repellent products on the market promise to keep mosquitoes away from certain outdoor areas such as the porch. Some of these products can provide effective protection from mosquitoes, reducing the risk of bites. Does this Spark an idea?

Candles

Candles that release natural mosquito repellents can reduce mosquito bites. One study found citronella candles to reduce the number of biting mosquitoes by 35 percent, linalool candles by 65 percent and geraniol candles by 82 percent.

Pyrethroids

Some repellents release a chemical known as pyrethroids to repel mosquitoes and reduce the number of mosquito bites. These repellents usually come as lanterns, coils and portable devices.

Considerations

Effective mosquito traps need electricity or propane to run and usually are expensive. Bug zappers that electrocute mosquitoes don't work effectively and can even spread viruses and bacteria on the insects.
