Avoid facial wrinkles with good skin care.
Over time, skin produces less collagen and elastin, both of which help keep it firm. Additionally, sun exposure plays an important role in skin health. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, "how wrinkled your skin becomes depends largely on how much sun you have been exposed to in your lifetime." Take good care of your face to avoid, delay or minimize wrinkles as much as possible. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more prior to sun exposure--even in winter--to shield your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. Use about 1 tsp. of sunscreen to cover your face and neck. Wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when necessary for extra protection.
2. Wash your face daily with a cleanser specially designed for facial skin, but don't over-wash. Tap water can actually remove some of the skin's natural protections.
3. Apply facial moisturizer after cleansing. When selecting a moisturizer, look for ingredients that are specifically designed to fight wrinkles. The Cleveland Clinic describes retinol, l-ascorbic acid (a form of vitamin C), hyaluronic acid, copper peptide, alpha-lipoic acid and alpha-hydroxy acids as ingredients with beneficial skin effects.
4. Eat foods high in antioxidants, vitamins C and E, essential fats and omega-3s. Try beans, berries, citrus fruits, whole grains and salmon.
5. Stop smoking, which accelerates aging. Stay away from secondhand smoke and other air pollutants, which can dry your skin.
6. Lie on your back to fall asleep every night to avoid skin creasing and sleep lines on your face.
7. Avoid making excessive or repetitive facial expressions. Habits like squinting or holding tension in your face can trace wrinkles on your skin over time.
