Poisonous plants often grow along roadsides throughout Southern California. You'll also find them in overgrazed pastures, in fields and in mountainous areas.
Toxic Parts
Sometimes, only parts of a plant such as the leaves, fruit or stem are poisonous. However, in the case of some plants including the poison hemlock, jimson weed, foxglove and castor bean, the entire plant is poisonous.
Symptoms
Some symptoms of poisonous plants may include thirst, dryness of mouth and skin, nausea, vomiting, loss of memory, delirium, muscular weakness, rapid pulse, fever, incoherence and stupor. Other symptoms may be visual disturbances, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, dilation of pupils, sweating, dizziness or an irregular heartbeat. Furthermore, you may also experience flushing of the face and neck, disturbed color vision, salivation, labored breathing, burning of the mouth, constant itching and even kidney and liver damage.
