Bugs can quickly make your home theirs. Creeping in through tiny cracks and crevices, crawling around and on your belongs, making their presence known. Fortunately, there is a wide array of bug killers on the market to help rid your home of the pests and keep them at bay. However, these products often contain toxic chemicals that pollute your environment with harsh fumes. Instead, use natural pest control to kill the bugs. Does this Spark an idea?

Ants

Ants invade your home looking for food to take back to their nests. They are small and red, black or brown in color. They can bite. Instead of harsh bug sprays to kill ants, fill a spray bottle with water and several drops of dish soap. When you see ants crawling around your home, squirt them with the soapy water. To deter ants from entering your home, place slices of bitter cucumbers or crushed mint leaves or cloves in places where the ants are gaining entry to your home. Create a barrier around your home with a trail of cayenne pepper to keep ants out.

Flies

Flies are common sight both inside and outside your home. Prevention methods are the best way to control flies in the home. Keep your trashcan lid on at all times. Wait until the night before your scheduled trash pickup to put meat in the garbage. Keep fruit in the refrigerator. Along with the preventive measures, various natural items deter flies from your home. Crushed mint, bay leaves, eucalyptus and clover all keep flies out of the area.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches prefer dark humid locations and scatter when exposed to light. Typically hard to get rid of, many people think that cockroaches infest only dirty, unkempt homes. This is simply not true. A cockroach infestation can occur in any home. You can kill them without harsh chemicals by sprinkling diatomaceous earth behind appliances, on top of cabinets and other hidden areas cockroaches like to hide. Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder that is harmless to humans and pets. It contains tiny, sharp edges that will damage the roaches' waxy exoskeleton and kill the insect within two weeks.

Spiders

People of all ages fear spiders and these creepy-looking crawlies may just be the most hated insects among homeowners. Since spiders taste through their feet, any overpowering herb will keep them away. Place orange or lemon peels in houseplants pots to keep spiders from making webs on your plants. To kill spiders within a few minutes, fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and 1/2 cup of chili pepper oil. Spray the spider thoroughly.

Fleas

Fleas cause painful and itchy bites on your family and your pets. They can quickly multiply and infest a home within weeks. Instead of sprinkling dangerous flea powder on your carpets, use table salt instead. Remove any rugs and wash them with hot water. Cover the entire carpet with a layer of table salt and use a broom to scrub the salt deep into the carpet fibers where the fleas like to hide. The fleas will consume the salt, which will dehydrate and kill them. After 24 hours, vacuum the salt off the carpet and reapply every three days. Table salt will not kill the flea larvae so it is important to repeat the treatment every three days to kill the emerging fleas.
