Make Non Chemical Bug Spray

Keep bugs away with a non-chemical bug spray.


Getting bit by bugs is a quick way to ruin an outdoor barbecue or an afternoon at the park. Although commercial bug sprays are available to keep bugs away, they often contain harsh chemicals. Next time you will be outdoors and are in need of a bug repellent, try making your own non-chemical bug spray instead. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


Vinegar-Based Bug Spray


1. Pour 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar into a clean, empty spray bottle. Add 1/3 cup witch hazel and 5 drops of citronella oil.


2. Put the lid on the bottle. Shake up the ingredients well.


3. Spray the mixture onto exposed parts of your skin. Keep it away from your eyes and face.


Alcohol-Based Bug Spray


4. Fill a clean, empty spray bottle with one part tea tree essential oil and 10 parts rubbing alcohol. Cedarwood, geranium, pennyroyal, citronella, catnip or geranium essential oils will also work in place of tea tree.


5. Put the lid on the bottle. Shake up the mixture well.


6. Spray the bug spray on exposed parts of the body. Keep it out of your face and eyes.
