Tile A Floor Cheaply

Press-on tiles are available at all major home department stores. I am one of the least technically inclined people that I know and I have laid out tiles in my apartment before. Press-on tiles are a fast, cheap and easy way to transform a floor and give a room a “clean” updated look. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

tile a floor cheaply

1. Begin by removing your old flooring. If you have vinyl tiles, simply treat the floor like a giant art project and begin cutting up the old tiles with an Exacto knife and removing them.

2. If you opt to lay tile over the existing tiles, just make sure your work surface is clean and dry. Begin in the areas that you see first when you enter the room. Peel the backing off each tile and lay the outer edge against the entry way, lengthwise along the room.

3. Repeat the process, lining up each tile directly next to the one you just placed. You want the full tile squares to look the best around the initial entry points of the room. In a kitchen for example, lay out the tiles as much as you can as whole tiles.

4. Then, where appliances begin, you will often have to tile up to and underneath edges, so you will need to cut some of the tiles. This is easy. Begin by laying town the tile as you normally would, but when it hits up against an appliance, use the Exacto knife to cut out perfect lines so it fits in place.

5. Voila, you are finished! An instant new room with new appeal. Vinyl tiles are also easy to maintain and clean. Just allow them to sit and settle in overnight, so they really stick and take to their new surface.
