Fogging an area provides temporary protection from mosquitoes.
An easy and convenient method of mosquito control, fogging the areas around the home with insecticide temporarily reduces mosquito bites. One or two applications of insecticide can safely provide relief from mosquitoes, but frequent application has adverse effects. Does this Spark an idea?
Features
To operate a fogger, a person places it in the center of the area to be treated and activates it. The fogger then releases insecticide into the air. After a while, the insecticide settles on the ground and other surfaces.
Efficacy
The insecticide usually reduces mosquito populations temporarily and is suitable for preparing an area before an outdoor event. However, it often also kills beneficial insects and nontarget organisms. Frequent fogging can lead to mosquitoes developing a resistance to the insecticide used.
Warning
Fogging exposes people and nontarget organisms to pesticide. Pyrethrins, the common fogging insecticide, can damage health. Precautions before fogging include leaving the area, removing pets and storing exposed food items.
