Make My Own Citronella Spray

Citronella is a natural insect repellent that when sprayed on skin, clothing, pets and other belongings won't leave behind the harmful chemical residue found in insecticide treatments. Making your own citronella spray is easy and cost effective. It can be bottled and taken on camping trips, hiking, to the beach and just about every other outdoor activity.

Instructions

1. Pour 2 ounces of distilled water into a 6-ounce spray bottle. Use distilled water, as some of the minerals and chemicals in tap water may actually dilute the properties in your essential oils.

2. Add 2 ounces of extra virgin olive oil to the distilled water.

3. Cap the bottle and shake vigorously to mix the oil and water together.

4. Use an eyedropper to drop 120 drops of pure, citronella essential oil into the distilled water and extra virgin olive oil mixture. Make sure you are using actual citronella essential oil, not fragrance oil, as fragrance oil only smells nice and does not actually repel insects.

5. Close the spray bottle and shake the contents to distribute the citronella oil throughout the oil and water.
