Wood'S Natural Insect Repellent

Wearing protective clothing and using insect repellent may prevent mosquito bites.

Not only do mosquitoes, deer ticks and horse flies inflict painful bites, these insects may also carry and transmit diseases like Lyme disease and West Nile virus. If you have concerns about repeatedly exposing your family to chemical repellents throughout the summer season, you may want to explore botanical or herbal insect repellent options, like Wood's Natural Insect Repellent. Does this Spark an idea?

Ingredients

Wood's Natural Insect Repellent contains a base of distilled water mixed with botanical oils. Oils used in Wood's Natural Insect Repellent include witch hazel, catnip, peppermint, patchouli and lemon grass. Catnip oil may provide insect repellent protection from mosquitoes for up to seven hours, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The witch hazel oil base in Wood's Natural Insect Repellent also calms the inflammation resulting from previous insect bites. Wood's also makes a natural essential oil tick repellent with a distilled water base.

Usage

Before using this spray, keep it in an upright position while you shake it several times. To repel insects, spray Wood's Natural Insect Repellent onto your clothing and any exposed skin. Do not spray this repellent directly onto your face. Instead, spray your hands and then rub your hands over your face for full insect repellent protection. You should not allow this spray to come in direct contact with your eyes, your mouth or the inside of your nose. Apply Wood's Natural Tick Repellent to your socks, pant legs, shirt cuffs and the back of your neck for protection.

Cost

Wood's sells its insect repellent in 2 oz., 4 oz. and 8 oz. spray bottles; the manufacturer recommends buying the 8 oz. bottle if you want to provide insect repellent for your entire family. The cost of Wood's Natural Insect Repellent ranged from $10 to $28 at the time of publication. A 2 oz. bottle of Wood's Natural Tick Repellent sells for $15.

Considerations

Although Wood's Natural Insect Repellent contains botanical ingredients, you should still supervise children when they apply the spray. The manufacturer states that you may use this insect spray on your pets, but remember to avoid spraying your dog in the face. If you have sensitive skin, apply a small amount of the repellent to a test patch on your skin and watch for an allergic reaction before applying liberally.
