What To Wear To An Evening Outdoor Wedding

What to Wear to an Evening Outdoor Wedding

Outdoor weddings are popular in the spring and summer. Many couples choose to wed outside because natural foliage provides a distinctive background for their wedding photography. Some couples hold their outdoor ceremonies and receptions in the evening, when the sun is not as strong. If you will be attending an outdoor evening wedding, consider several important factors when choosing your attire. Does this Spark an idea?

Do Your Research

Before planning your outfit for the evening ceremony or reception, research the average high and low temperatures for the location. Ten days before the wedding, look at the 10-day forecast to see exactly what kind of weather is expected. If the temperature is expected to be the same as it is during the day, wear the same attire you'd wear to an afternoon wedding. If the temperature is expected to drop, dress accordingly.

Plan Around the Weather

For outdoor weddings, the weather often dictates your attire more than the formality. If you are expecting it to cool down, opt to wear a lightweight cardigan or shawl over your dress. For men, simply wear a suit jacket to protect against cooling temperatures. If the forecast expects the temperature to drop dramatically, women may choose to wear a dress suit instead of a cocktail or summer dress.

Choose Your Footwear

It is important that you wear appropriate footwear to an outdoor wedding, as some surfaces are more difficult to walk on. If the wedding is held on a grassy surface, opt out of stiletto heels and choose wedge heels or simple flats instead. Heeled shoes are likely to sink into any moist earth. If the wedding will take place on a firmer surface such as pavement, wear any shoes you feel comfortable walking in.

Apply Bug Repellent and Sunscreen

Evening often attracts insects such as mosquitoes. Apply bug repellent spray before getting dressed so that you will not be bitten during the evening ceremony or reception. If any of the wedding will take place while the sun is still up, such as an afternoon ceremony followed by an evening reception, apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.
