Store Perishables In A Fridge

More people get sick from eating at home than eating at restaurants and improper storage of perishable food is the main cause of this statistic.Your family meals will be safer, fresher and healthier if you learn to store perishable food in your refrigerator correctly.

Instructions

1. Store all produce, baked goods and prepared food that has been cooked on the top shelf of the refrigerator.

2. Store raw fish on the second shelf. If any juices from the raw fish drip onto the shelf below, there is little chance of cross contamination because the ingredients on the shelf below need to be cooked.

3. Store raw beef products below raw fish. If you have a fourth shelf, use it for raw poultry or keep beef and poultry on the bottom shelf. Raw poultry ingredients can cause the most cross-contamination, so make sure these are always on the bottom shelf.

4. Store bottled condiments on the door. Most of these condiments are high in natural preservatives and will be fine in the warmer temperature typically found on the door.

5. Move eggs and butter to the inside of the refrigerator rather than on the door so they can maintain a constant temperature.
