Garlic can add more than a little kick to your meal. They can also serve as a helpful, natural insecticide particularly against aphids, mites, slugs and grasshoppers. The preparation is actually quite simple, provided you don't eat your ingredients first. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Crush 3 or 4 cloves of garlic into a fine dust with a mortar and pestle.
2. Boil them in half a liter of water for 15 to 20 minutes. Let cool.
3. Filter out the water into a glass container. Add 10 grams of soft, potash-based soap (and not a more caustic, modern soap). This will help the mixture to stick, without harming the plants.
4. Dilute in 5 liters of water, or use 1 part garlic mixture for 10 parts water.
5. Add to a spray bottle and apply to the plants 2 or 3 times a week if it rains and only once if it doesn't. Some think that natural pesticides are best used as a preventative measure, so in case of outright infestation, you may need to resort to something stronger.
