You can use household items to relieve your boxer's mosquito bites.
If your boxer dog is experiencing itching, swelling and irritation due to mosquito bites, then you can take various steps to relieve the symptoms. With just a few household items, your boxer will stop itching and return to its frisky, playful self. However, if you believe that the mosquito bites have become infected, then it is important to take your dog to the vet as soon as possible for more-comprehensive treatment.
Trim the Fur
Before you can treat your boxer's mosquito bites, it may be useful to trim away the fur surrounding the affected area. This will make it easier to reach, wash and monitor the bites. You can trim your dog's fur using a pair of safety scissors or a razor. Be careful not to cut your dog's skin, as this can expose it to infection.
Cleanse the Area
Use warm water and a little baking soda to cleanse the affected areas. This solution is completely safe for dogs and will help to alleviate the itching. If your pet won't remain still, then have someone else hold your boxer while you wash the mosquito bites. Repeat this two to three times each day until the mosquito bites subside.
Apply Aloe Vera
Apply a dot of aloe vera to each mosquito bite. Aloe vera will not harm your dog's skin and is not dangerous if your dog ingests it orally. In addition to promoting healing, the aloe vera will also help to ease any irritation or itching. Reapply the aloe vera at least twice a day, or more often as needed.
Monitor Pet's Behavior
Whenever possible, discourage your boxer from licking or scratching the mosquito bites. Itching will only further irritate the skin and prolong the healing time. You don't need to use a cone or continually monitor your dog to prevent it from scratching the bites. Although it might take a little longer if your pet scratches them, the welts will eventually subside.
