Natural Ways To Keep Mosquitoes Away

Natural Ways to Keep Mosquitoes Away

Mosquitoes are the enemy of any person who enjoys spending sunny days outside without being bugged. Beyond their ability to spread disease they also can leave unsightly and irritating marks on the body after they have drawn blood. Although you may want to rid yourself of these pests, you may not want to do it in an environmentally harmful fashion or use harsh chemicals. Ridding mosquitoes is the way to go if this is your choice and there are many options to achieve this without using potentially harmful methods. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Call for some help from Mother Nature. There are actually some plants that may help with your fight against mosquitoes naturally. Planting some Catnip, Marigolds, Citronella grass, or Rosemary will help to naturally repel mosquitoes from your landscape. Not only is this an environmentally friendly way to handle mosquitoes but it is also beautifying to your garden and the environment. Mosquito plants can also be ordered online and planted but have received mixed reviews when it comes to their effectiveness.

2. Enlist a bacteria called Bacillus Thuringiensis known as b. t. that kills larva. B.T. is a natural bacteria that has been used by farmers to kill crop eating insects. Place this substance around your yard and in standing water to kill mosquito larva before it matures ensuring that they will not reproduce in your immediate area.

3. Concoct a natural repellent solution. Citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint, and lemongrass are all effective repellents for mosquitoes. Mix your choice of these essential oils in some water, rubbing alcohol, or clear drinking alcohol like vodka and shake them together. Apply this to corners and doorways in your house using a spray bottle or sponge. You may also spray this directly on mosquitoes and areas they frequent.

4. Turn on a fan. Mosquitoes are discouraged by frequent or steady breeze so enlisting the help of a fan will help make it an uncomfortable environment for them to stay. Natural breeze fans that blow air randomly work well too and can be utilized to discourage mosquitoes naturally.

5. Remove standing water when possible. Places like birdbaths with standing water and rainwater catchers provide a nearly perfect environment for mosquitoes. Removing and emptying standing water will help to keep mosquitoes away. If you have ponds near your landscape, keeping fish in them will ensure that they eat the larva of mosquitoes.
