A good workplace team can get results that people working alone could not.
Managers use workplace teams for a variety of reasons. Some teams are formed out of necessity because different areas of expertise are required to complete a project. Other teams come together over time as staff members begin to rely on one another for job completion duties.
Variety of Ideas
A group of employees working together has a pool of ideas to draw on. A brainstorming session draws from the varied backgrounds and experiences of the team members. Teams are more apt to come up with unique and efficient solutions to company issues that individuals may not be able to develop on their own.
Quality Control
An individual reading a proposal or inspecting an item for flaws can make a mistake. If that individual misses something, it could go through to the final product and cause the company problems. A team offers several sets of eyes, all with different levels of training and sensitivity to finding issues. With a team of people reviewing information, errors are more likely to be detected, and the final presentation has a more-professional look.
Support
A person working alone needs to consistently reach out to co-workers or managers for information and access to resources. Individuals also need to reach out to co-workers for emotional support during difficult times even though those co-workers do not have a clear understanding of what the individual is going through. A work team provides a pool of resources for team members to turn to when information is needed. The team also provides moral and emotional support, which can be effective because the teammates understand the situation each is going through.
Productivity
Managers who want to create synergy among their staff often encourage their employees to become a departmental team. The team works together on helping members complete tasks. Along the way, the team members learn perform the basic tasks of one another's jobs. This means that an efficient team can remain productive even when members of the team are missing from work for any period of time.
