Mosquito Repellent For Home & Body

Prevent mosquito bites with repellent.

While enjoying your backyard or camping out in the woods is a key part of the summer, uninvited guests may ruin your summer idyll. Mosquito bites can leave you with an itchy reminder of your night outside, something you can prevent with repellent. Does this Spark an idea?

Significance

According to Mayo Clinic, mosquito repellents are safe for both kids and adults if used properly. Keep in mind, repellent does not kill mosquitoes, but keeps them from biting you.

Types

Repellents that contain DEET and picaridin work by blocking the mosquitoes' ability to find you. While repellents that contain DEET have a distinctive smell, those that have picaridin are essentially scentless. The higher the concentration of the repellent, the longer protection you have.

Considerations

If you do not want to use chemicals, natural alternatives exist as well. Oil of lemon eucalyptus is effective and natural; however, the Mayo Clinic warns that you should not use it on kids younger than three. Citronella is also effective but does not last long.
