What To Bring On Vacation To Florida

Your flight is booked, your schedule is cleared, now all you need to do is pack your suitcase. Packing for your Florida vacation doesn't need to be difficult. Pay attention to the following travel suggestions and you will have everything you need for a successful and memorable vacation in the Sunshine State.

Clothing

-Pack shorts and light shirts--and many of them. Ten minutes outside in the Florida heat and you will likely want a change of clothes.

-A pair of jeans and a light jacket. The temperature can back off a bit at night, so be sure to bring a few pieces of warmer clothing just in case you get chilly.

-Multiple swimsuits. Be sure to bring at least two. Trust me when I say that little is more uncomfortable than putting on the previous day's not-yet-dry bathing suit.

-Appropriate footwear. You will want flip flops or sandals if you are spending time at the beach, but wear tennis shoes if you are hitting the theme parks.

Beach Accessories

-Sunscreen. This is a necessity when vacationing in Florida. The Florida sun is unforgiving, and you don't want to be burnt for the rest of your trip. Consider purchasing waterproof sunscreen so you don't sweat it off.

-Sunglasses and a hat. Bring your own so you won't need to spend a fortune on buying them at overpriced beach shops.

-A beach towel. Make sure to bring a separate towel that you can lay out on and don't mind getting sandy.

-An underwater camera. If you want to capture some of your Florida vacation memories on film, invest in an underwater camera. Florida has many water attractions that aren't necessarily camera-friendly. Consider this: Does Sea World sound like the ideal place to take your prized Canon Rebel?

-Ziploc bags. You will want these for cell phones, cameras, ipods, and various other electronics while at the beach. I can tell you from firsthand experience that sand and electronics do not mix well. Plus, these bags are perfect for transporting your seashell souvenirs.

-A beach bag. A large canvas bag will be your best friend when it's time to transport all of the aforementioned items with you to the shore.

Odds and Ends

-Your passport. Though you may not be leaving the country, a passport is always a good idea to have while traveling. Florida has many cruise ports and you never know when you can catch a good deal to the Bahamas.

-Umbrella or poncho. Florida is known for it's temperamental weather, so it's never a bad idea to have some type of rain guard with you.

-Bug spray. Beware of the mosquitoes.

-A good book. This is a great idea for either the flight to Florida or just laying out on the beach. Relax... you're on vacation!
