A wall tent offers extra headroom for extended camping trips. It also is a traditional tent used in historic reenacting from the revolutionary war period all the way through the American western period including the military portion of the Indian Wars. It is the common tent used by outfitters in extended hunting expeditions. Modern wall tents use a metal framework while traditional tents use wood poles.
Instructions
Modern Metal Frame Wall Tent Set Up
1. Assemble the center frame including the ridgepole and legs of the wall on one side. Insert the metal tubes into the corners and connectors around the frame according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Pull the tent over the frame. If there is a rain fly, a separate fabric cover over the roof of the tent, pull that over as well. Adjust the position of the tent over the frame from the inside of the tent. Add the legs and other supports associated with the wall that was not originally assembled while also working inside the tent.
3. Drive tent stakes into the ground at all the loops at the base of the walls. Also stake in any guy ropes and pull tight. Stake down the guy ropes attached to the rain fly.
Traditional Wall Tent Set Up
4. Lay the tent canvas out on its side on the ground. Assemble the ridgepole and the two tent poles. Pins at the top of the tent poles slide into holes in the ridgepole. Slide the assembled poles into the tent as it lays on the ground and then pivot the poles and tent upright. This usually requires two people.
5. Stake down the two front and two rear guy ropes while the tent is held upright. At this point the tent will stand on its own and the rest of the guy ropes can be staked down
6. Insert the wall stakes between the ground and the point where the guy ropes attach to the junction of the wall and roof.
