Ideas For A Preschool Bulletin Board In December

Hang pictures of students playing outside next to the board.

Between the upcoming holidays and extra time home with family, December is an exciting time in a preschool classroom. Get children involved in the creation of your class bulletin board. Having activities to do will keep children from bouncing off the walls, and creating a special bulletin board keeps parents in the loop about what their children are doing at school.

Looking Back

With the year coming to a close, use your board to help children reflect on what you've done so far that school year. Create a section on the board for each of the previous months of the school year. Post a picture of a special activity you did that month, along with quotes from children about it. You might also ask each child to choose one favorite memory from the year so far. Ask children to draw a picture of this activity to hang on the board.

Looking Ahead

Inform parents and children alike about the plans you have the coming year. Hang the name of each month on the board. Underneath each month, post the names of holidays you'll celebrate that month or potential field trips you might take. Include the lesson plans that you'll cover in each month. Laying all this information out will help give children an understanding of time. For instance, they'll be able to see that Valentine's Day is coming, but not until after the trip to the museum and the lesson about flowers.

Christmas

There are plenty of options for a Christmas-themed bulletin board, but check that all students celebrate the holiday first so no one feels left out. Cut out a Christmas tree shape and let each student design an ornament to hang there. Ask each child to draw a picture of what Christmas looks like at his house. Trace a stocking shape on construction paper for children to cut out, then have them search through magazines for pictures of things they want to receive for Christmas. Each child can write his name on his stocking, then glue on all the gifts.

New Year's

Talk to children about how New Year's is a time when people make resolutions about things they want to accomplish in the next year. Ask each child to come up with one thing he wants to do in the coming week, one for the coming year and one for his whole life. Write each child's responses on a piece of paper for him to illustrate, then hang each page on the board. Include teachers' resolutions as well.
