The Best Household Products

Lemon is just one household product you can use.

Cleaning the home is something that many people hate to do, but it's an important task, as an unclean home can seriously affect standards of living and even lead to health problems. While there are thousands of different cleaning products on the market, there are several very basic everyday household items which can be used to effectively clean the home without exposing your family to harmful chemicals and toxins. Try some excellent household items to effectively and cheaply clean your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Vinegar

Ordinary distilled vinegar is a popular household cleaner and is effective at killing mold, bacteria, and germs due to its high level of acidity. It can be used to clean sinks and worktops, and can even remove grease and grime from such appliances as fridges and ovens. It is environmentally friendly, and it is often a lot cheaper to buy a bottle of vinegar than specialized cleaning products.

Lemons

Lemon juice, either squeezed directly from a lemon or in bottled form, is a very effective cleaner and leaves the home smelling fresh and clean. The best use for it is on your chopping board. Scrub your chopping board with lemon juice and water and then leave overnight for best results. Cut half a lemon in half and leave it in the refrigerator overnight to mask nasty smells, as well.

Baking Soda

Perhaps surprisingly, baking soda is a top cleaning product. A small bowl of baking soda in the refrigerator, freezer or cupboards will keep away unpleasant odors and leave your home fresh all year round. The advantage of using baking soda or air fresheners is that you will not just mask the smell with chemicals --- it will actually remove the odors themselves. Clean surfaces by sprinkling some onto worktops and cleaning off with a damp sponge; remove smells from your carpet by sprinkling it with baking soda, then running the vacuum over it 15 minutes later. Baking soda can also be used to clean up grease spills.

Newspaper

Rather than throwing away old newspaper, use it to clean your windows. Dip your newspaper in vinegar and then wipe the windows and glass doors until it is almost dry, then shine with dry newspaper or cloth to get sparkling results. Use newspaper to clean mirrors in the same fashion.
