Mosquitoes are pesky insects that feed on blood and carry diseases. Their bite results in itching, pain and irritation. There are several natural and chemical methods to get rid of these small winged pests. But it is always better to go for non-chemical methods as these methods do not have any harmful effects on the human body.
Physical Barriers
Make use of window screens and door screens. Physical barriers like tents and nets repel mosquitoes physically from entering inside. In order for it to work you will need to immediately close the doors and windows after you open them. Also fix mosquito nets on your cot which will prevent mosquitoes biting you while you are lying on the cot.
Remove Standing Water
Ensure that water does not accumulate around your house. This includes flower pots, buckets, trash cans, gardening cans and swimming pools. Water is still the best place for mosquito breeding, so drain out standing water as far as possible. In those cases where you cannot drain out the water like swimming pools or flower pots, change the water at least once a week. You can also clean the water using detergents. Find out their breeding places and destroy them.
Use Electronic Techniques
Purchase rechargeable mosquito killer rackets from hardware shops. These rackets kill mosquitoes with the small amount of current passed through them. It has a similar shape to that of a tennis racket and instead of plastic nets, it has current passing through the strings. Charge the racket and switch it on to start using. Swing it over the mosquitoes. They are killed as current passes through their body. Keep it charged so that you can use it whenever required. This is an environment friendly and safe method to kill mosquitoes. You can also make use of devices which produce sound waves that scare mosquitoes away. Use electric fans so that the wind produced keep mosquitoes away.
Wear Protective Clothing
Wear protective clothing like full sleeves, long pants and socks. Also try to wear light colored clothing, as dark colors attract mosquitoes. Even some perfumes, sprays and cosmetics attract mosquitoes. So avoid using these especially in the summer season when mosquitoes accumulate more.
